Our Story
We went to the same church in Ann Arbor, MI and met for the first time when we both decided to go to Honduras for a missions trip. Out of the entire team, she was the only one I didn’t know and I had no idea she was going to my wife one day!
I knew that he liked me when he took care of my cat while I was out of town and later found out he was very allergic to and didn’t like cats. Then he asked me to be his girlfriend and I said "Yes! I’d love to."
Each day that we spent together made me think "I could see myself having a life with her." We went on dates, ate all sorts of food, studied, worked on things, went on vacations, watched movies, made silly faces on roller coasters, went to church, prayed, argued, made up with apologies, ice cream & flowers, and two years passed by quickly. But one day, she found out she's moving to Los Angeles for a year long residency program.
Four months later, SJ followed me to LA and things got real serious. We explored LA together, found a church community, gained some weight and survived the winter without any snow!
I've been thinking about proposing before she moved out to LA and it was already months into 2016, yikes. I picked up the engagement ring and I couldn't wait to put it on her. Soon later, we went on a little field trip to the mountains of LA and drove around for hundreds of miles looking for the perfect spot. I was too nervous.
We were driving up and down the mountain to find a perfect date spot but it took too long and I fell asleep in the car. I felt sick from all the driving and I told SJ I wanted to go home.
It was now or never. I found a little secret path and asked her to stand at a spot so we could take timelapse pictures together like we often do on special trips. While my camera was shuttering every five seconds, my heart was beating way too fast and I couldn't think straight. Do I get on my left knee or my right knee, I don't know! The little speech I prepared in my mind went blank but I went down on one of the knees and asked her to marry me! She made a super teary face and said yes!
We are very excited for our future, and can't wait to get married!
Thank you Alice, friends, family, and God.
